TV Station Accusation of Rain Evokes Protests from Fans
24 March 06
krent.xicn.net
Morning programme of Korea TV station KBS reported a segment on singers miming during performances two days ago, and surprisingly displayed Rain's picture during the segment. Angry fans felt that the report was misleading and raised a protest by calling the TV station non-stop, causing a major jam in the station's call in switchboard system. The station was eventually forced to make a public apology.
Two days ago, the report on KBS's morning show flashed Rain and Hyori Lee's pictures while talking about singers who like to mime, insignuating that these singers don't sing live.
The show's viewership consist hugely of housewives, and many did not like their idol, Rain, to be insulted in this way. They started calling the station non-stop, until the host in charge had to make an open apology, "Very sorry, we did not mean to create this misunderstanding".
Rain is not only well-loved in Korea, he is also enjoying high popularity over-seas. The total toursim dollars Rain brought in with his 22 performances during his concert tour is estimated to be as high as a hundred billion won. As his contract with his overseas music company "DR Music" is coming to an end, many companies are in the midst of discussing the contract with JYPE, hoping to clinch the deal.
At the moment, JYPE has set a target of about 40 concerts with distribution rights at a cost of about a hundred and fifty billion wons. "Regardless of the high fees, each concert can still bring in a profit of 300 million won." however, JYPE expresses that money is not the concern here. The main issue is to do a good show.

Rain Goes To Post-Grad Class. Paparazzi Classmates Monitors His School Work
25 Mar 06
Journalist Zhao Da Zhi reports
Although Rain is coped up at Kyung Hee University as a student, he is still unable to escape the paparazzi students in school. They are observing if the megastar is studying seriously and reports his every move in the internet. It's a good thing Rain hands in his homework on time like a good student, and passes his exams successfully, or it'll be quite embarrassing for him!
Rain's schedule is fully packed, so it's confirmed he's not going to Taiwan for publicity when Star TV starts airing Ijuksa on 4th April, 9pm. His first movie "I'm a Cyborg, is that ok?" is due to start filming soon, and he will be playing a youth with psychological problems. Due to his high demands of himself, he has asked to go observe at a real mental hospital. This was rejected by his manager, because it is uncertain what kind of a chaos he will create appearing at the hospital. In the end, they got a staff to describe the daily going-ons at the hospital, and asked a medical staff to explain the symptoms of a mental patient, so that Rain can get a better idea.
Rain did not neglect his study even though he is famous, and some feel that this is the best way for him to avoid being enlisted now. He graduated from the music department of Kyung Hee University and successfully got into the Art Fusion Graduate School of the same university last year. Kyung Hee University has many artistes in their student list, so students are used to seeing them around. But Rain's appearance still caused quite a stir in the school. Even when he reported at school in a low key manner with his blue beanie and sunglasses, he was still recognized straight away by a junior female classmate.

Magic of Love of Another Korean Drama: Scriptwriter Lee Kyung Hee comments on Rain in Sangdoo
I’ve adopted a strict attitude toward Rain right from the start.
I told him "You're the male lead in this drama. If you do badly, everything you’ve done will go down the drain". So you must work hard, follow Hyojin closely and learn well.
Because of this, Rain was very nervous.
But he really did do well.
In the beginning, I was the one who gave him the role of Sangdoo. But over time, I began to feel that he was the one telling me what kind of a role Sangdoo really is.
Of course, Sangdoo is Rain, and Rain made Sangdoo come alive.
Now to think of it, without Rain's interpretation, the character Sangdoo would never have come alive. So he really did do very well.
Rain really works very hard. I think it is hard on him physically, so much so he may be starting to lose his hair. He is really going through a hard time.
In the drama, his role kept switching between the present and the past; now he's a gigolo; the next moment, he's back to becoming a student. Hence his hairstyle was always changing, sometimes up to 6 times a day. No wonder he's losing his hair.
In the original script, only Sangdoo was supposed to die.
It was supposed to portray Sangdoo as putting in his all his effort, tried hard and struggled to live on, but fate is cruel. Even a person who tried so hard to survive still died in the end.
So I had planned to let Sangdoo die peacefully.
When I was writing episode 15, I received Hyejin’s mail.
"Please don't kill Sangdoo. If you must kill him, please kill me too. Because if Sangdoo dies, I won't be able to live on too."
At first I was bewildered by this whole thing, but she mailed me 6 times in total.
So I decided to call her, asking her what exactly did she think she was doing?
Told her it's Sangdoo dying, not Rain. But she said, "If Sangdoo dies, Eunhwan will not be able to live too. Please let Sangdoo live. Otherwise, just kill us both."
I have completed my script and I cannot change it, neither do I plan to change it. I told her the script may under-run, and she actually told me to re-write the script!
I was terribly angry, reprimanded, "How dare you ask me to rewrite the script, idiot?"
After hanging up, I was unable to ignore the issue, so I called Rain and asked for his opinion.
Rain told me, "I don't know, but if Sangdoo really dies alone, his life is really too sad. What sin did he commit so much so that he has to die alone?"
After that issue, I saw the two at the filming site. Suddenly it occurred to me that killing Sangdoo alone is indeed very cruel.
Ah~ These two are indeed inseparable. Let them stay together then, whether live or dead, I thought.
I had set the tone for the scene in the jail.
Sangdoo was supposed to express that he is not tired, and doesn't feel that his life is sad despite being in jail.
This is because in his heart, Eunhwan is always by his side, hence his life is not too tragic.
But during the filming, Rain kept crying.
I didn't indicate in the script for him to cry, but he was totally into the role, so he couldn't help but sob. He was crying so sadly he could speak properly and had to stop filming for a while.
Thinking back, Rain is right, Because he has completely became Sangdoo.
There was a scene when Sangdoo wanted his uncle to teach him how to play cards. His uncle was surprised because Sangdoo had said he'll never touch that stuff. In actual fact, the part that was being cut away explained how he sworn off gambling because that was how Sangdoo's real father gambled his life away. But because Eunhwan's mother liked people who play cards, she he wanted to pick it up too.

JESNEWS
Lee Jin Lan reports ran@jesnews.co.kr
The guaranteed deposit of concert performance for Asian star Rain (24) is 100 billion won and above. This information is hotly discussed after it has been made public.
Starting from December this year, Rain is expected to bring his concert tour to China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, and other parts of Asia as well as the US. The tour is estimated to last until the second half of 2007 with 40 concert performances in all.
The guaranteed deposit for each concert performance is 250 million won to 300 million won. This means a whooping minimum of 100 billion won to 120 billion won in terms of income for 40 shows. Taking the recent Bangkok concert as an example, the guaranteed deposit was 300 million won.
Recently, Rain's entertainment company, JYPE has invited tenders from concert organizers, and will be selecting their Rain's concert partners based on the bidding system. It is estimated that the concert proposal, as well as the bidding documents will be released by the end of this month.
Rain has held 22 sessions of Rainy Day concerts over the past one year, attracting about 200 thousand fans from all over Asia. It is believed that the number of turnout will double for his next concert tour.
On the other end, Rain is currently resting in Korea, preparing for his new and debut movie "I'm a cyborg, it that ok?" as well as recording his Japanese album.

Rain Busy with New Albums and Filming
21 Mar 06
Even with no overseas activities in his daily schedule, Rain is still busy as a bee.
He is currently in Korea, occupied with the recording of his Japanese albums, as well as familiarising the scripts of his first movie, "I'm a Cyborg, is that OK?" (Directed by Park Chan Wook, Production company: MOHO)
"I'm a Cyborg, is that OK?" starts filming in April, and Rain has already met up with Director park and Im Soo-Jung on the 18th this month at MOHO. He is currently busy with familiarising of the script. It has been 4 years since the stillborn of his last project "Wind Warrior" and Rain approaches his debut movie this time with determination.
"I'm a Cyborg, is that OK?" is the new work of Director Park who shot to international fame with the move "Old Boy". Cyborg talks about a girl who believes that she is a fighter robot. She falls in love with a guy who believes he invented a soul-stealing machine.
While busying himself with the script, Rain doesn't forget his original identity of a singer. He is now occupied with the 2 Japanese singles and full album due to release in Japan between June to August this year. Recording of the album goes on in the recording studios of JYPE late into the nights.
According to JYPE, Rain will be releasing his Japanese album in August followed by his fourth Korean album in October.

Rain vs Junki [chinese newspaper]
According to Seirin of Rain International, some translation of the above article says, "It basically compares them as the hottest items in 2006. The top compares their profiles and the bottom tells about reason for their popularity I think. I didn't really like how they labeled junki as "demonic? (half male / half female) taste" and bi as "animal taste"."

Singer Rain, Actress Lim Soo-jung to Act Together in New Film
According to an official from the film production agency on Mar. 20, the group felt somewhat awkward at first, but the ice was broken after they read the script for about three to four hours and had meals together.
"It's Okay, Though You're a Cyborg," a new HD film, will be directed by Park, the director of "Old Boy" and "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance." It portrays a story about a woman, who believes herself to be a combat cyborg, meeting a man, a serious case of a social misfit, at a mental hospital.
This will be the first film Rain will act in, although he has made his presence known as an actor in TV dramas such as "Let's Go to School, Sang-doo!" and "A Love to Kill." For the new film, Rain will play the lead character using his real name, Chung Ji-hoon.
Lim, who has yet to finish the final scenes of her new film "Lump Sugar," has been cast as the lead female character. The shooting of the new film "It's Okay, Though You're a Cyborg" will begin late this month. Most of the scenes, including those at the mental hospital, will be filmed in Busan.

Jung Ji Hoon, born on the 25th of June 1982 is a well known actor and singer in South Korea.. He uses his stage name, Bi (pronounced: “Bee” which means Rain in Korean), when he performs as a singer and dancer. His real name is Jung Ji Hoon, which he uses when he performs as an actor. His surname is Jung and his given name is Ji Hoon (also spelled as Ji Hun)
He discovered his passion for dancing ever since he was in the 6th grade. As a teenager, he was part of the boyband group called “fanclub” and years after the group ended, Park Jin Young (Korean producer/singer who worked with American singers Will Smith, Mase, Lil’ Kim, 3LW, Tyrese) took Bi under his wings after he auditioned for JYP entertainment and trained him for years in dancing and singing. Bi was a back-dancer for a famous Korean singer named Park Ji Yoon and Park Jin Young himself. During those training years, Bi was not at home much and would lie to his parents telling them he was gonna study in the library while in fact he went to the dance studio. He struggled financially and at times had to go without meals. Nevertheless, he continued to focus on his dance and singing even though he was anxiously waiting for his debut.
Finally in 2002 he debuted with the song “nappun namja (bad guy)” charming fans with his singing and powerful choreography. After the 1st album, he starred in the drama “Sangdoo Hakyo Gaja (sangdoo let’s go to school)”; many people were impressed by his acting skills regardless that it was his first time acting in a drama. Following the success of his debut, he came back with a new set of style in his 2nd album and hit song “how to avoid the sun”.
In 2004, he starred in another successful drama called “Full House” which has aired in other Asian countries such as the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Japan and was one of the highest rating Korean drama which has won the hearts of many fans across Asia. His performance in Full House has won him the Best Actor Award at the KBS Acting Awards
His 3rd album “it’s raining” has been released in Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand and has top the foreign music charts in those countries; the album has sold more than 1 million in Asia and it is still in the process of being released in other Asian countries as well (soon to be in the Philippines). His concert called “Rainy day” which was held in Korea and Japan had concert tickets sold out on the first day. Jung Ji Hoon (Bi / Rain)
The American hip hop singer Lil’ Kim has offered Bi to work with her on her new album, the group 3LW also collaborated with Bi on their album. The Korean Pop sensation, Bi received the 2004 “KBS Daesang Award” in Korea (Daesang is the highest Korean music award) and he has won the MTV Asia Grand Slam; a series of awards in the Asian countries that broadcast MTV Asia. He won the “Favorite Artist of Korea” from the 2005 MTV Asia Aid held in Bangkok and the “Popular Asian Artist Award” from Channel [V] Thailand, he also won the “Best Buzz Asia Award” during the MTV Japan Video Music Award 2005 and in Beijing he won the “Best Korean Singer” award in the MTV-CCTV Mandarin Music Honors. He is invited to perform in the American MTV Video Music Awards 2005 held in Miami and also at the MTV Latin Video Music Awards 2005 in Mexico. Since his debut in 2002, the 23 year old has been one of the most popular Korean artists in Asia. The success he achieved through his hard work is a promise that he made to his late mother.
In 2005, Bi clinched the Best Buzz Asia from Korea at the MTV Video Music Awards Japan 2005. He also won the best Korean singer award 2005 at the Mandarin Music Honors in Taiwan. Having been voted as the best Asian singer by the Taiwanese media, Bi is positioning himself as one of the most admired Asian stars this year. Wherever he goes, he generates huge public interest and becomes a hot topic of conversation. His every move is monitored by the media and draws keen attention from music fans. Bi is currently on an Asian music tour which started in Seoul and will travel to Tokyo and Hong Kong. He is creating and showcasing fresh new spectacles at every single concert, and tickets are selling out quickly as a result. His first solo concert in Japan last summer, entitled "Rainy Day Japan" and held at the Tokyo International Forum, was so popular that all the tickets were sold out 30 seconds after going on sale. And the tickets for another of his concerts in Taiwan were sold out the moment they became available. Bi continues to set records in Asia. Now planning to go beyond Japan and Hong Kong, Bi will make a foray into China by giving a concert in Beijing.
Rain Bi's personality and charm sweeping Asia
The Japanese pronounce Bi as "Pi," and they also describe the singer with another term as well. During one of his concerts in Japan, Bi enthralled his fans with a powerful and masculine performance onstage. But when he chatted with fans after the concert, he surprised his fans by displaying a boyish and playful demeanor, earning him the label "Kawai," which means "cute" in Japanese. He is known as a powerful man onstage and a "cute" persona offstage. It is this characteristic that makes his fans crazy about him. Bi is famous for trying his best in whatever he does. He is arguably the best dancer in the nation, because he learned to dance onstage as a backup dancer for an already-established singer before his own debut. It is hard to define his dancing with simple words because it is a mixture of so many diverse elements. He has created a whole new style of his own by integrating diverse genres of dance over the course of his long dancing career.
Singer Park Jin-young, who heads the entertainer management company to which Bi belongs, once told a radio show that "I was always wondering whether [Bi] understood what I told him because he never replied even when I scolded him. One day I entered Bi's room, and ended up breaking into tears." Bi, who was then an aspiring singer, was poor at expressing his emotions verbally to his older colleague. But what Park discovered in Bi's room was a wall covered with "post-it" stickers. Every single sticker was filled with notes of what Park had told and advised him. Bi had written down every single piece of advice his older friend had given him, and had been doing his utmost to correct his mistakes and improve his skills.
It can be said that this latent passion for excellence is what made Bi what he is today. And Bi has great potential for further development because he always tries his best to sharpen his current skills through ceaseless practice. He is truly a believer in the saying, "Opportunity visits those who make great efforts." There is no doubt that Bi will reach beyond Asia to become a global star someday because of his enormous talent and tireless work ethic. The success he achieved through his hard work is a promise that he made to his late mother.
mother.

It's going to rain in New York today.
The photos on NY Times and NY Post reflect their interests
in Rain's presence in US
This is a certain studio in Manhattan.
It's one day from the concert, and Bi is having his press conference.
This day, not only are there US reporters and foreign reporters, many members of the music entertainment industry turned up as well,
leaving a deep impression on the reporters
JH:
Getting so much attention from the US reporters. How do I say this?
It's a real honour.
And father. It's the first time he expressed he’s proud of me.
That made me happy
[The seven rainmakers: Rainmaker No. 1]
JH:
Ah, well, I'm now going to present the first person who helped me get to where I am now
First of all, this person has long arms
This person gave me the first help and opportunity to get into this entertainment industry
Well, I think you've already guessed. Yes, here he is
[Rainmaker No. 1, Producer JYP]
[The first time Rain met JYP]
JH:
Oh, I was really scared, really scared,
And the first time he looked at me he simply asked
"You know how to dance?"
"Yes, a little"
"Dance". So I did
Really, after I put "repeat mode" on for the music,
I kept dancing without resting even once for 3 hours straight
When one place didn't worked, I moved to the other end. When I really couldn't anymore, I leant against the cupboard and moved
and JYP was watching me all the time till the end
[The first time JYP meet Bi]
JYP:
He looked like a tiger starving near to death, although he looked really tired,
He also had an urgent look in his eyes, through his eyes you could see his eagerness
Only his eyes were still alive.
[When Bi was under JYP's training]
JH:
During training, JYP stood in front of me and told me "sing", and
while I was singing, he kept saying, "again", "again", "again",
I felt so bad, because he treated me so coldly it felt like he was hitting me.
It was Raining that day and I started to cry
"I...I'll do it, aga...in" I said, I couldn't even breathe normally.
"Why are you crying? What did you do right?"
"N...n...no, it isn't that I did it right, I'll do it again"
I said, and continued
JYP:
I usually don't praise so the person will keep improving. I don't praise,
because if you do well, and I say you are good, maybe you will not practice again.
To friends who do not success, I congratulate them,
but to the people who are successful, I keep challenging them.
So at the end, the people I really like and worry about deep down inside, think like, JYP hyung or JYP oppa
really doesn't like me, that will be how they feel.
JH:
Once, I was in this room full of singers, and suddenly
JYP asked me to bring the audio to sing in front of all this singers
but these artistes already knew that I was going to release an album.
I didn’t want to, but at that time, every word that JYP said to me, it was important, and I always obey him.
I did it, but I really couldn't sing. I was intimidated and embarrassed.
After I went home, I couldn’t stop crying
"Really, this is not what I want", I thought
I was motivated to do all these things perfectly,
because in my head the faces of this people staring and laughing made me mad.
"Just wait. I will sing better than you, and dance better than you!" I thought
but now, when I remember this, I know that JYP made me suffer like this,
So if I have to face something like this now, it wouldn't be a big deal, because I’ve already experience this before.
This was how he taught me.
[One year later]
And one year later, my first album was released.
JYP:
For the first album, the songs, the dances, and his overall appearance
They were all above standards.
In second album needed more techniques.
Bi was already introduced, so we tried to dissect emotions with sad ballads.
Tried to create a sad and deep atmosphere by injecting his personal grief. It was really hard.
By the 3rd album, the expectations were too big, so we thought that we have to put on a new "face" for Rain, bring out the unique colours of Rain, the unique world of Rain.
So we asked him, "What kind of music would u like"? He said "Dancing has always been my passion. Although I like to sing, but I'd really like to have a hot-blooded song that would allow me to dance till like crazy."
So I said, "Ok, we will make that music." So I wrote "It's Raining" for him, and we let him do the rest.
[JYP in the eyes of Rain...]
JH:
I have no words to describe my gratitude, I am really grateful to him
From the beginning, JYP really, like, he doesn't cook the fish and give it to you.
From making the cane, to the way of fishing, to the way of catching the fish, he taught it all to me.
That's why I can do all this now.
JYP:
At the end of the day,
A person with talent can become a star. But a super star is not made by talent.
There may be different reasons. Passion, ability to endure pain and the reasons to endure pain. Only this kind of people can be superstars.
Talent may be able to create a star, but endurance and tenacity create superstars. Singing and dancing talents are not enough.
[NY TRL, MTV Studio]
Many people have gathered before the studio, because Rain will be performing here today. It is rare to see so many fans gathering for a singer, here in US.
After a while, Rain appeared at the 2nd level of the studio. The fans went wild. Lastly, when Rain started singing "I Do", MTV’s film started rolling. At this moment, his face appeared on the huge screen on the wall of TRL. The is the first time Korean singer, Rain, appear before the eyes of US.
JH:
When my face appeared on the huge screen, "Wah, I'm really on it. Is this a dream or is this real?"
Last year, JYP brought me here and said, "We must work hard and appear on that screen".
Now that we've made it, there’s a sense of satisfaction.
I feel proud as a Korean, that is all.
I will work hard at my performance and go back there again.
Kim:
Is this your hostel?
JH:
Yes
Kim:
This is your hostel.
JH:
It's my hostel
Kim:
How long has it been since you've stepped into your home?
JH:
About a month plus
Kim:
A month?
JH:
Yes, so when I shower I'll use my feet and step on the underwear, wash them like this
Kim:
Ah, so as you shower, you also wash your underwear
JH:
Yup. As you shower, the soap water flows down your body to your feet,
Kim:
I see
JH:
So you can conveniently wash the underwear as well
Kim:
I see...
JH:
Yes, then you don't have to wash your feet. You can rub them clean with the underwear.
Kim:
Ah, Rain must use dance steps to bathe, don't you?
Kim:
Is this your luggage?
JH:
Yup
Kim:
No matter what hyung does, you just sit quietly beside me and watch
JH:
Hyung, hyung...
JH:
These are socks.
Kim:
Ah, socks.
JH:
I haven't got time to wash them, so I prepare more of them.
Kim:
I see you like these sexy socks, these sexy socks, you like these sexy socks
I can see everything
JH:
These are...
Kim:
These are the underwear you wash with your feet?
JH:
Yup
Kim:
Did you do these yourself?
JH:
Cute eh? I bought the rubber bands to tie them together.
Kim:
You bought the rubber bands to tie them together
There are spare ones too
JH:
I'm very meticulous. And very honest. Also...
To save money, I always have my workout equipment with me
This is for when you are watching TV. You train your biceps like that...
Kim:
Ah, so the muscles are not from your usual training, but from crash workouts for the concerts
JH:
Yup. From crash workouts for the concert
Kim:
So you're at the concert. Just before going onstage…
Then...ah...We've seen everything today
I thought it's JY Park
JH:
They're ballet dancers. I heard they only sleep 4-5 hours a day, training for near 20 hours. So that's how they practice, and I use this to push myself.
Kim:
Ah, I see. You haven't have time to go home. When you look at the luggage, do you lonely?
JH:
Yes, very lonely. First and foremost, I feel very tired, working outside is very tiring. This is when I think of my fans and family. I have to work hard for the sake of my fans and my family. Regardless of whether I succeed or fail, I will go on.
[New York Concert 'D' Day: 3rd Feb 2006]
Good morning New York! Boarding the car and heading towards the concert location.
JH:
To the concert location
[The feelings of facing the concert...]
JH:
Since I made my debut, I've been working hard. I’m finally here on this huge stage.
It's good experience to have such a great challenge at a young age
It'll be great if I succeed.
But even if I fail, all these will still be a great help to me.
[The first time Rain was determined to become an artiste...]
JH:
The first time I had this determination was when I was in high school.
I felt that a leading a life in front of the camera was an attractive way to live.
At that time, there was a person giving me strength
[The seven rainmakers: Rainmaker No. 2]
JH:
He is somebody who recognized the potential in me, and gave me plenty of help then.
[Rainmaker No. 2: High School Teacher Kim Chul Hong]
JH:
Mr Kim Chul Hong was my drama class teacher in high school
I still can't understand now [Getting major roles means you are a good actor]
He gave me roles, said "You can act well. Your physique is suitable for acting".
All the other teachers usually gave rebuking remarks, and are always scolding me.
But this teacher was different. He gave me a chance, so I worked very hard.
After the performance, all the other teachers changed the way they viewed me.
KCH:
That particular drama then was called "Sea girl goes on mainland", and it was a mere week away to the performance day.
A friend told me he couldn't do it, so I turned to Jihoon and said, "If only you can do this part", and tried to convince him to challenge the role.
Regardless of whether you want to become a singer or anything else, it will help for you to have experience acting in a drama.
In the end, Jihoon took the role.
In Anyoung Art School, when a person is performing, if the people beside them laugh, the performers laugh as well. This is not the attitude of a good actor.
But when JiHoon acts, when people laughs, he'll grow angry, saying "I'm trying to concentrate on my role. Why are you laughing?"
At that time, I felt this child was different. He had the concentration, a head-strong character and he cannot take mockery; so he’s really special.
"Sangdoo" was the feel of Jihoon. It’s the natural Jihoon, that's Jihoon's advantage.
I was worried about "Full House" because there the drama involved deep emotions, complicated relationships. Can he do it well?
But he slowly accepted and slowly digested his role. Because he is a hardworking and headstrong person. Standing in the viewpoint of a teacher, he put in countless amount of sweat as a singer, and endless amount of effort as an actor.
Whether as a singer or an actor, you need more hard work. This is how I see it.
[US Madison Square Garden, Concert, 1pm]
As a place that has staged many important political and cultural events in US, Madison Square Garden has hundreds of years of history and tradition.
Rain is the first Asian to be performing on this stage.
Here, the crew is busy with their first rehearsal for their performance tonight.
JH:
Director, there's no time. Let's start from the place where we made a mistake.
All staff quieted down. It's like the real official performance for Rain.
JH:
Ok, that's it.
[The Rain off stage is the coach cum the music director]
[The seven rainmakers: Rainmaker No. 3]
JH:
This is the man whom I've been with since I was preparing to be a singer, helping me, staying by my side. He is one of them. This is Rainmaker number 3, lead dance choreographer, Jeong Sung-Tak.
They're like special task force [communicate and organized like a special task force], like a battle drill, "Hyung, let's give him a call". Once we call the leader, he will contact the rest one by one, and they'll all assemble immediately.
No matter if they’re on a date or doing something at home, they'll all come. This is how we practiced.
["Nan" Dance Choreography: JYP Dance Team]
[Rain, in the eyes of the lead dance choreographer...]
JST:
Normally, for short choreographs, I'll just teach them and they perform thereafter.
[Rain's concept and movements for dance choreographies]
After Rain has observed many concerts, he'll tell us to do this, do that, design the movements and then teach it to us. After tidying up the choreography, we'll then put them to performances. This happens a lot.
[JYP "My girl" Dance Choreography: Rain]
[Rain before his album debut]
JH:
The part that demands the most attention when choreographing a dance is you have to make it different. There must be uniqueness and creativity. Costumes, movements, songs--all three elements must come together to produce the best effect.
[Rain feels his best dance choreography is...]
So, up till now, the best dance choreography is probably "Running Away From The Sun".
["Running away from the sun" Dance Choreography: Rain]
[Evaluation of Rain]
JST:
Rain has superb charisma on stage. He doesn't attract with big movements, but he emits a kind of lethal attraction when standing on the stage.
[One hour before the concert starts]
Kim:
Hi everybody, we are now in front of the Madison Square Garden
Many fans are waiting for Rain's concert to start
[Raining Day, US NY Concert 2nd February 2006]
Finally the concert kicked off. With a loud bang, rain leapt into the air and landed on the stage.
He starts dancing to the music, and the 5000 audiences went wild as well.
To congratulate Rain in his first concert, P Diddy appeared as well.
P Diddy:
I have to come and see this for myself. I have so much respect for Asian and American movements that's going on. And also, this is the first Asian Sean John Model right here.
Following that, Jojo and Omarion both came to the stage and performed with Rain, exhibiting their great dance techniques.
Omarion:
Hello Korea. The concert was amazing, you know and Rain was amazing, and I mean, What can I say? U wasn't here, and there’s only so much I can tell you. You have to be here, so it was ok. I'm happy to be here.
This day during the concert, Rain performed more than 20 songs on stage, accessorizing the stage with his hot dances, cheered on by the loud screaming of fans. The concert this time attracted much attention. This is the first signal missile issued by Rain, and the first meaningful embark on this journey.
JH:
Everybody had a lot of expectations on me. In order not to fail these expectations, I did my very best. I feel very satisfied and happy.
This is an unforgettable memory.
US producer:
He made a lot of people happy tonight, and I was completely impressed.
And the support staff in the background of the successful artiste
And if you turn the camera that way...
...that way slowly
[After the concert...]
JYP:
Both Rain and I feel that, all starts are difficult. Once we have a beginning, we will exhaust all our energy.
So because we have a start, we are very happy.
This concert is not our start. This concert is just a small showcase, an opening to entering the US market.
Whether we have the concert in Madison Square Garden or anywhere else is inconsequential. We want to take culture as a product and aim to take a spot in US as artists. We're just happy because of the start we have.
[The seven rainmakers: Rainmaker No. 4]
Rain: After my performance, many people come to my mind. One of them, he's huge, he's compassionate, and he's like a cute animal. Some people may have guessed. Yes, it's him.
[Rainmaker No. 4, Kim Tae Woo]
JH:
Before I made my debut, one Christmas, mum was really sick, so we had no money at home. I didn't have any money for bus fare, so I wasn't able to go home for five days. The bus fare was 500won, and I didn't want to ask money from other people. All the other trainees have gone home. With a (can't make out what this is), I survived for five days. In the end, I had a skin infection, and didn't have much to eat for 2, 3 days. At that time, I picked up the phone, and could think of three persons, one of which was Tae Woo. It was Christmas that day, and lovers were walking the streets hand-in-hand. There was smell of food drifting up from the Udong (noodles) store downstairs. I was so hungry, I even thought of stealing. At that moment, Tae Woo came in through the door, and asked, "What are you doing?" He brought a whole lot of bread. I thought a celestial being had descended to earth. My eyes lit up. There was a splendor about him.
JTW:
The truth is, JiHoon is developing really great now, isn't he? That's why I was nice to him then...kidding.
It's like that. The g.o.d members also went through some hungry times before our debut. I know how tough it is to be hungry, and what I could get immediately at that time was bread. So I bought some and sent it over.
JH:
Those bread had a deep meaning to me. I was a nobody then, and g.o.d had already released their 3rd album, hitting a sales record of 2 million. They were very popular. I was very grateful he was able to come see me.
KTW:
The first time I met him, he had this killer instinct look. You could see it in his face: Give me one chance, and all of you will be dead.
The JiHoon now: A junior who is able to realize his dream. Although he is my junior, but he is one worth respecting. He is like a discipline soldier, after working hard, he changed his dream into reality.
The city where the east meets west, Bangkok. In this place, the finale to Rain’s Asian Tour is about to begin.
Early in the morning, thousands of fans and members of the media have crowded in the airport, waiting.
[Bangkok International Airport; 23rd Feb 2006]
[Fullhouse hit a viewership rating of 64% in Thailand]
'exploding popularity in Thailand can be credited to serial drama "Full House", which achieved a rating of 64% in Thailand.
In eager anticipation of the waiting crowd, Rain finally appeared at the airport in his sunglasses and a white beanie.
In attempts to see him better, a struggle in the crowd began. Rain smiled at the approaching Thai fans. This moment once again ascertains the exceptional popularity of this Korean Wave star.
The busy schedule has finally come to an end, and Rain is at the beach with his dancers.
JH:
Every time I go overseas to perform, I hardly get any time to exercise.
Once I have spare time, I'll work out with my dancers and colleagues.
Once there's time, I’ll go exercise with my dancers.
When there's no time, dancing is also a form of exercise.
Talking about this, there's someone to be introduced here.
[The seven rainmakers: Rainmaker No. 5]
[The person who build healthy bodies, the one who has been helping me till now]
[Rainmaker No. 5, Bodybuilding Coach, Go Gwan Jang]
JH:
I only got to know Go Gwan Jang after my debut. He used to be Mr Korea
[Keep emphasizing on scheduling training sessions]
Dancers tend to have abdominal and pelvic muscles, so the curves are become apparent through the underclothing (translator: ok, ok…it’s underwear).
GGJ:
Abs, shoulders and bicep muscles. When wearing short sleeve shirts, the bulging vessels make the muscles look especially resilient. You can show your muscles off during the overseas concerts, very suave.
[Rain when working out]
GGJ:
The Rain who is working out is very vicious, very vicious with himself.
Once he sets a target, say 100 times, he doesn’t give up until he makes the number. Even when he's very tired, he will persist till the end.
The toughest thing in this world is battling with yourself. He has already won this battle.
[Winning the battle with yourself is winning the war]
[The seven rainmakers: Rainmaker No. 6]
She is someone who the mere thought of her makes you feel safe leaning upon her. She is like mother, a very amiable person.
[Rainmaker No. 6, Radio Broadcast DJ, Oo Mihee]
JH:
You know the kind of friend, even when you've only known each other for a month, it feels like you've know them ten years, hundred years ago. It feels like that with teacher.
[When was the first time you met?]
JH:
About three years ago, when I was on a radio show. She came across as being very gentle, just like mother. I don't know if I can put it this way. She's very good-looking, very pretty.
OMH:
I was very uneasy then. Because our age gap was so great, it's very inconvenient doing a show together. What do I say to a child like that? I felt ill at ease, and that it was difficult. At that time, I gave him a postcard. The postcard's content was: A child held a piece of maple leave and said to his mother, "Mummy, a present". His mother took the maple leave and felt the arrival of autumn.
Rain finished reading the postcard, and I asked him, "What present are you giving to your mother this autumn?" His eyes moved a little and said, "Oh, mum has already passed away." Because it was a LIVE broadcast, I felt I was really mean, it was my mistake.
JH:
What could I have said then? She looked very embarrassed, very guilty. Actually I didn't mind it that much, many people have already asked me about it.
[There were already many discussions about this topic]
After I said that, teacher gave me a lot of helpful and supportive words.
OMH:
I said, "Sorry, I had no idea". Rain comforted me instead, "Of course you didn't", and he also said, "The best present for mum is a beautiful wardrobe. I can afford one for mum now, but she's no longer around." After that, his eyes looked sad for a while, and that sad look gave me courage to speak. While we aired songs, we chatted a lot.
[Oo Mi-hee in the eyes of Rain...]
JH:
Meeting teacher, she gave me two feelings.
One, a feeling of nostalgia for mother, two, a criteria set for the kind of woman I want to marry in the future.
[Rain in the eyes of Oo Mi-hee...]
OMH:
I've seen many artistes, in the music industry, in the 27 years of being a DJ, I’ve seen many "yesterdays" and "todays" of countless singers.
In my eyes, Rain is a very honest, down-to-earth singer.
Just like the Rain onstage, his life is also very honest. Our Rain is only slightly past 20, but he has found a strength within himself, because he is a wise man.
Finally, the finale to his Asian Concert Tour has commenced. Rain captured the visions of the Thai fans with his dynamic movements and enigmatic charisma onstage. The performance when Rain became one with the audiences concluded two hours later.
JH:
From the US concert to the Thailand performance, we finally see the end of the two-year concert tour.
As this is my first concert tour, there may be many mistakes. I'll do better in the future.
I feel I've gone one step up.
Whenever something major or important comes up, I'll always think of mum.
Actually, whenever I’m about to release a new album, or every time I’m about to embark on a new project, I'll go to my mother's grave and tell her,
"Mum, my I've just completed my new album. I've put in my best for it, so please give me plenty of help."
After each major performance, I'll also report to mother and say my thanks to her.
[The seven rainmakers: Rainmaker No. 7]
JH:
To me, the noun "mother" is the very meaning of my life, and the reason for me to live.
Mother is my religion; to me, she's like a god. So whenever I'm tired, whenever I face obstacles, I'll always think of my mother.
Mum seemed to have endured a great deal of pain. 15 days before she passed away, she was in a great deal of pain. Her whole body was so bloated she couldn’t move, and her leg was also seriously wounded, it was really very painful. But after discharging from the hospital, mum still went to the market herself to tend the stall. The days after that, there was no places on her body where they do inject on, so they had to instill 8 tubes on her neck.
At that time, I was very miserable mentally and emotionally. I didn't have much food, and was enduring hunger. But at that time, I thought the mental and emotional pain, and the hunger was nothing compared to the sufferings of mum.
Persistence and endurance, I think that's where I learnt them from.
Mum had a hard life. It will be good if she can live comfortably in heaven.
I think mum is looking out for me, and has always been by my side. As her son, I must work very hard.
Mum has always been facing hardship. I believe she is looking at me from heaven, and has always been by my side. I must strive hard to become a son she'll be proud of.
Also, I'll earn a lot of money here. When I meet you in the future, I'll buy mum a lot of good food.
I love you mum.
Perhaps it was the painful experiences; the Rain today is even more brilliant. Although everybody has their dreams, not everybody can attain that position.
To hold steadfast to this position, Rain is battling with himself even now. His courageous journey only begins now.
JH:
I have my dreams in my heart. In the future, no matter if it takes one year or ten years, maybe I won't succeed even at the end of the road. But I won’t concern myself too much with success or failure. I will simply do my best.
I will always stay humble. Please give me your assistance and support.
KTW:
Actually the beginning of the road is really difficult. It's full of hardship. To be a singer in Korea, a representative singer in Asia; to bring so many people together in a concert held on the land of US; to open a bigger market; I'm proud of you. For the sake of many singers who will attempt to take the path you’ve taken, you must work harder to open the way.
KCH:
To create my characters that will move people's heart, you must put in even more hard work than now. No matter at the end you are a singer or actor, you need to work harder and cultivate inner strength.
JST:
Running on without knowing what fatigue is, I think you can take a break sometimes. I hope he has time to recharge a little. He’s simply working too hard.
GGJ:
Although we haven't really seen each other in this brand new year and only communicated through letters, I've heard much good news. Whatever you are doing, FIGHTING!. I’ve always wanted to tell him, "FIGHTING!"
OMH:
I hope he has no painful days, not even flu. You must stay healthy, let us see his healthy looks for the longest of time.
JYP:
There's no need to say anything. I only hope for him to become the world's best singer, and bring the best performance before us.

Craze for Korean TV soaps reaches US
Stephens is among a growing number of Americans with no ties to Korean culture who say the shows are a compelling and wholesome alternative to the usual U.S. daytime TV fare.
``I like the fact that they're cleaner, they're not as smutty as the American dramas,'' said Stephens, who is 32 and grew up in Durham, North Carolina. ``I didn't think I would enjoy watching, but I really got caught up in it.''
Mainstream commercial outlets also are joining in the Korean craze, with TV dramas becoming South Korea's hottest export since cell phones, women golfers and kimchi. The craze, which includes music and film, has swept through Japan, China, the Philippines, Singapore and most of Asia and is now making its way across the United States.
``It's just a small peninsula nestled between Japan and China, but they've just hit it right,'' said Tom Larsen, general manager of YA Entertainment LLC, a major North American distributor of Korean dramas. ``They know how to put together a good drama that their neighbors in Asia are eating up.''
Now, more Americans are saying hello to ``hallyu,'' or the so-called ``Korean wave'' that Larsen said has come to encompass ``all things Korea.''
``It stopped in Hawaii, built up some momentum and reached California shortly after and is continuing to spread across the states,'' he said. ``The mainland is three, four, five years, behind Hawaii.''
Korean soap operas, once sold only in Asian specialty stores, have gone mainstream with English subtitles.
In Hawaii, retailers such as Wal-Mart, Costco, Borders, Blockbuster and Tower Records offer Korean drama DVD sets for $ 60 to $ 120 (euro50 to euro100), and the DVDs are sold in mainland cities with large Asian communities such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago and New York.
Since opening in 2003, San Bruno, California-based YA has seen revenue triple in each of the past two years behind strong sales of its top sellers: the tearful love story ``Stairway to Heaven'' and historic drama ``Dae Jang Geum,'' named after an imaginary woman court physician in the 16th century. YA plans to release 22 titles this year.
Fans say the Korean shows, centered around relationships and family, focus more on story lines than special effects and are a refreshing change from American programming they see as too violent and too racy.
Annette Marten, a 69-year-old nurse from Kailua, said Korean soaps depict love in a more romantic and artistic way, without steamy bedroom scenes.
Many Korean dramas have themes similar to American soap operas-- love triangles, forbidden love, evil mothers-in-law and corrupt business partners. But a key difference is that Korean series usually end after 16 to 20 hour-long episodes -- no matter how popular they become. In contrast, CBS's ``Guiding Light'' has been on the air since 1952.
There are blogs, chatrooms, a weekly column in Hawaii's largest daily newspaper, even tours to Korea to visit filming locations. And Korean restaurants, shops and language classes are filled with curious non-Koreans.
Music plays a prominent role in Korean TV dramas, and there's a lot of crossover in acting and singing, such as pop stars Jung Ji-hoon and Eric Mun. Jung, featured in the hit romantic-comedy series ``Full House,'' is better known as the singer ``Rain'' who gave two sold-out concerts at New York's Madison Square Garden last month and played to 40,000 fans at Beijing Workers Stadium in October.
Hallyu stars' privilege?
Lee Seung-yup said after bringing victory to his national team with a two-run homer in a game at the World Baseball Classic: "I hit the ball a little harder to help the boys get the privilege in conscription." He was referring to the present conscription system in which sports players and artists who win championships or top prizes in recognized international competitions are exempted from active military service.
The WBC games are ongoing and we still don't know if Lee's wishes for his junior teammates will be realized at Anaheim, California. But the casual remark of the baseball hero stirred a debate in entertainment circles where leading figures are calling for equal privileges for "Hallyu" stars who are also raising Korea's national prestige with their explosively popular performances overseas. Entertainers said to deserve such special favor include Rain, Seven and Kangta from vocal group H.O.T. who are at the conscription age.
The Military Services Law provides that "persons with outstanding talent in the arts and sports fields" recommended by the minister of culture and tourism can be exempted from active military service and be allowed to engage in the arts and sports activities "to promote culture and enhance national prestige." A number of amateur and professional sportsmen have benefited from this provision.
Now the debate in public forums and cyber space are centered on a few difficult questions. Rain has not won any prize in an international song festival. However, the pop music world does not have its version of the P.I. Tchaikovsky Contest and his popularity cannot be measured by any number of trophies, some argue. Others doubt that society should recognize Rain's time more valuable than that of any other young individuals in their chosen trades. Opponents of special treatment in military service for the "Korean Wave" stars point out that they have already been rewarded with big money.
Managers and families of these popular entertainers will rack their brains to find a way to help them remain in their performing career as long as possible. But ultimately it is up to the conscience of Rain, Seven and Kangta to compare the values in life of patrolling the DMZ fence and enthralling thousands of fans in a concert. Movie actor Won Bin has already reported for duty, while Pianist Iruma announced he would join the Army soon.
CREA Magazine Interview
In his new single, his challenge of the all-Japanese lyrics still remains in our memory. And he performs as the first Asian to hold a concert at New York Madison Square Garden This "treasure of Asia" has set his sight to concur the greater world. Presenting new images and sounds of the one who has been concentrating on his hidden fire of ambition, Rain.
After his first time successful concert Budokwan last year as a Korean artiste, Rain's popularity soared in Japan. He released his first Japanese single on Jan 25th "Sad Tango". At the same time, his concerts in NY Madison Square on 2nd and 3rd Feb received overwhelming responses. We ask Rain how he feels on extending his influence in Asia to the rest of the world.
Crea: You had quite a bit of activities in Japan in 2005. How was last year like for you?
Rain: Last year was different in that it was a year when we had many concerts in many places. First, I was happy that we met up with fans from several Asian countries. The performance in Bodokwan was great. Although I was asked if I had any pressure performing there, but there was really none. I feel that I can only perform well when I have confidence. The fans felt the warmth and glory as well. I was happy so many people turned up.
Crea: You released your single "Sad Tango" not too long ago. It’s a pretty sad song.
Rain: The song has a great feel. That's why I chose it. Because it gives people a feeling of sadness, that's why the lyrics are also based on a sad love story.
Crea: Were you thinking of anything in particular during the recording?
Rain: I was simply trying to demonstrate love through very sad emotions. I was jilted by my girlfriend in high school. I was very sad then. I thought about that incident and inferred to my feelings back then.
Crea: The lyrics implies lingering feelings for the girl in the story. Does that have any similarities to Rain?
Rain: Well...actually I am this kind of a person. So I felt the same.
Crea: Many guys seem to still have lingering feelings for the ex-girlfriends
Rain: Yes. Girls are very bad *laughs*
Crea: Oh so sorry. But when girls hear this it evokes their motherly instincts
Rain: Ah…I see *laughs*
Crea: The couple song (accompanying song for his single) "Slowly" has an erotic touch to it
Rain: Yes, it shows the original feel of R&B. People who doesn’t like R&B may not be able to take it.
Crea: You used elements of Tango in your new work this time and had some new challenges. Any other interesting things or things you’ll like to challenge in the near future?
Rain: I still want to do what I’ve been doing, that's R&B and Hip Hop. Working hard and persisting on is an important part of me, and I think this is the best gift to my fans. I want to add in my feelings for Korea in my work and create something new. That's the way I do it. In principle, it's centered on R&B and Hip Hop, but we've added Tango elements this time. We may consider other elements like flamenco in the future. As long as it's something new, I want to try it. I think it's my duty as an artiste, and this is where you get respect from others. I treasure creativity most. Without creativity, even if you produce new stuff, it may not be good.
Crea: It's said that you're venturing into US as well?
Rain: If you don't try you'll never know how it'll turn out, so I want to challenge US while I'm still young. If I succeed, I'll be happy. If I fail, it doesn’t matter. In my development in Japan, I don't just think of earning money and gaining popularity. I am developing here because I like Japan. I want to understand the culture here, know what the Japanese are thinking of, I want to absorb more of all these and take them with me on my journey to US, attacking US market with arrows from Korea and Bow from Japan, that's my strategy. If I can make it to the billboard, that would be wonderful. If I lose the battle there, I won't regret it. Japan is just my first step. As long as I know I’ve done my best before I die, then I will have no regrets.
Crea: In the last press conference you said you’ll be developing in Japan. What’s the current strategy now?
Rain: Yes, most likely that will be the case. Other than Japan, I want to continue developing in Korea, Malaysia, Vietnam…non-stop to many different places.
Crea: You'll need a lot of energy for that
Rain: Energy should not be a problem, but I may get tired mentally, so I need to do mind control from time to time.
Crea: How do you do that?
Rain: I don't think about anything else, just focus on my career. I don’t even have time to eat now, and no privacy. In order to learn English, I have a teacher with me 24 hours a day. Even sleeping seems to be a waste of time. But learning is fun *breaking sound-->he crushed his plastic cup in his hands*
Crea: Ah…you certainly have more than enough energy.
Rain: I've got plenty of energy! Next I'll be releasing some great singles, and I'll be working with some very brilliant artistes, such as in terms of production work.

Rain and Shin Min Ah will visit Taiwan in April
With his concert in Taiwan last year, he visited Taiwan for this DHC modeling event.
Rain is more famous for this acting in the drama Full House compared to his popularity as a singer because they were introduced to him with the drama first. But Taiwan fans are very excited that they can watch the dram "A Love to Kill" and they are patiently awaiting the day when it will be aired.
The Taiwan media reports that Rain is 8 kgs less in the drama and he shows a different side of him from the drama Full House. Rain is more masculine and charming in "A Love to Kill". The Taiwan media is waiting to see if this new style will win him more popularity in the drama area.

He saw Jihoon last week (12th March)
Jihoon came to work even though it’s Sunday…*Laughs*
According to that friend, Jihoon smiled and greeted him first
Also, he said that Epik High’s rapper Tablo came with Jihoon to the company to do a duet
Epik High did a number with Jihoon on his third album, called "My Groove"
They are a very talented Hip-Hop group in Korea.
Tablo is also very close to Jihoon
Seems like they will be performing in Jihoon’s new album~~looking forward!
2. A story regarding Jihoon (From Benamoo)
A cloud member in Benammo has a friend who is working as an air stewardess
This air stewardess told a story of Jihoon.
The other day, this air stewardess bumped into the operations supervisor of her airline (Korea Airline)
This supervisor told her that Jihoon took the flight he was in charge of the other day.
He was flying secretly to Japan (He went on 8th March and came back on the 10th)
Although the supervisor was about 50 years old, he was well-informed about the current entertainment news.
So, the other day, he saw Jihoon, and wrote him a note.
The content of the note was as below:
"Not only are you serious about your work in Korea, but about your overseas activities as well.
You brought glory to Korea. I'm very proud of you, and very thankful to you. Fighting!"
Unexpectedly, he got a return note from Jihoon. He really wasn’t expecting him to revert at all.
He said, Jihoon is really quite a nice person… He showed the air stewardess the letter which he has scanned into his laptop. The reply note said:
"Read your note with much care.
Actually, I've been very tired lately…your letter brought me a lot of strength and comfort. Thank you."
When I saw the content in Benamoo, I was happy and sad at the same time…
Although he is such a famous celebrity, he is always so polite. Once again, he's made me proud.
He is also human. Being busy with work, having no privacy and getting negative reports from the media etc
All these are making him very tired.
I hope after he films his movie, he rests well, sleep well and recharge to regain that cute and beautiful smile.
"Charlotte" tells Rain's stories via her pen, showing his cuteness, discipline & professionalism (Part2)
A week in Thailand..
After I have written about the works behind Rain's concert, all the fans might want me to write about Rain himself too. Whether what we've seen him in Full House or Sangdoo, is that for real or just illusion ? I have met Rain quite several times and also joined his and his crews' trip in Phuket. (Only staying there one night, girls, don't get me wrong.) At Phuket, he was the real himself because all the works had been done and he could fully take a rest there after all the heavy works he'd been doing all through the year. Let's started with what fans would like to know... I was thrown in many times with several questions including what's he think about Thailand. I can say that he meant what he said, not just trying to please the audiences when he said he liked Phuket. (Next time, we should ask for sponsorship from the Thai Tourism board.) He first went there to film Full House...actually we should say that he really likes the sea. When he reached Phuket and saw the sea, he did nothing but hurriedly run into the sea (like seeing a long-time-no-see girlfriend.) About his favourite food, like Thai people who went aboard after taking a couple of meals in foreign restaurants, afterthat we would feel like getting back to our own dish, he went like that too. As for the desserts, he liked to eat cakes so the ID-Media crews gave him several decent cakes.
One thing that I was impressed by Rain and his crews is their disciplines and that they all knew their duties. So, when Rain had to meet fans or make a public appearance or to take photos, he nicely completed his tasks and he never complaint a bit. And if the one who asked of his photo was an elderly, he would hold them very tight. If they were young kids, he also gave them a kiss. (at this point , I suspect many girls would be jealous.) When he went to the Charity event at Lumpini Park in which the weather was very hot, and Rain had to meet several disabled preys from drunk-car accidents, he still gave his autographs and took photos with everyone and that gave such a happiness to the disableds. And this...is his charm, that when he meets fans, he will do his best on a part as fans' idol. Fans will never disappoint. At Donmuang airport, we had asked whether he would like to go to the VIP exit so he didn't have to go through the crowd, but he chose to go through the normal exit way to meet his fans.... and that's what we've seen, Donmuang was nearly bullied down by his fans.
Rain was a very humble boy. He never acted like a super star. He was very easy-going and he said thank you everytime someone did something for him. The word "Kob Khun Kab" (Kob Khub Krab means "Thank You") was very easy to come out of his mouth and he also gave a "Wai" everytime. ("Wai" is...holding palms together and bow.) Everytime he finished his meals and was about to say goodbye for the day, he would bring all his crews to us just to make everyone saying thank you. That's very cute of him. And another thing that I think is his good stuff is "Touching". While most super stars wouldn't like to be touched but Rain liked to make a touch , for example, when he met someone, he would straight his hand out for a handshake and when fans asking for photos, he would put his arms around them (both female and male fans) , not just standing still. And when to encourage or to give a praise on someone, he would gently pat the one's back to show how he feel. This small and simple bits are what have given anyone who met him good impressions. I, myself, used to like several super stars and when I met them in person, I mostly gave up because their uncuteness. But as for Rain, it's like the more you meet him, the more you like him.
When he went to Phuket, he was an easy-going person. He wore a normal foreign boy's cloth and if you walked pass by , you might never notice that this is a super star. And he was able to do everything that he would like to do... such as riding a motorcycle around the island (he loved doing this) or going out on a yarcht to other islands, swimming, diving to see reefs and sea fishes, going to a spa, he was very excited doing all these. And another cuteness of his is that he never acted differently from his crews that he was a super star. He never request a better treatment than his crews.
Rain told ID-Media that he was touched by what we settled for them including accommodations, food and the trips, and it was very special for him. He was glad to have this Phuket trip and wouldn't forget about this. And this Rainy Day In Bangkok had a total audience of almost 20,000 people which scored a high record for foreign concerts in Thailand so he was confident in opening concerts in Thailand again, which is probably early next year.
What I've written is some parts that I knew and I think Rain's fans might want to know too so, I wanna to share this as our Thank you for the supports in our first organized concert. "Kamsahamnida (Kob Khun Ka)"

Behind the scene of Rain's concert
Here's write-up about Rain's BKK concerts by the head organizer, Ms. Charlotte Tonavanik ( that middle-aged lady that led Rain through the crowd at the airport). Well, this is their first concert and like the interntational fans, the Thai fans didn't enjoy their works from the beginning either but after the concerts finished, Thai fans seem to be very satisfied and very happy because the concerts have made such a hugh impact. The organizers own or are related in some ways to several Thai media, Channel 7, radio, newspapers, etc. Thanks to them, Rain's fans are no longer the minority in Thailand. ^_^ Sangdoo will end on Channel 7 next week and after that, we will get a rerun of Full House. Rain still falls heavily here.
by Ms. Charlotte Tonavanik
As soon as ID-Media were given an authorization for this event, everything must be done very hurriedly because JYP Entertainment, which is Rain's label gave us a reply at the end of December 2005 and the concert was due on 25 February 2006. All works had to be done in a hurry including finding sponsorships and finding all the needed equipments, which some of these we had to order from aboard 'cause they were not available domestically.
I'd like to confess here that when I saw the list and the specifications of the equipments that were requested, then I went like "Oh Gosh!!!!". Every single bit was 1st grade and was all very high specifications. My partners had to discuss whether we could reduce the size of the stage and the equipments so that we could reduce our investment , but finally, we concluded that if we would like to do it, we would have to "give it all" for the best and completeness of the concert and the audience would be satisfied. So, if my readers went to the concert, you would have seen that the openning of the concert which was Rain jumping up on to the stage but you would never know that we had to order that equipment from abroad 'cause the ones available in Thailand couldn't give an adequate height. So, when Rain jumped once, that's a hundred thousand baht!!!
When JYP crews arrived at 4 days before the concert, they worked really hard. I can honestly say they worked like a world class and they weren't fussy, if there was a problem, then they just tried to solve it. They weren't bashing or anything, or maybe it was because we were all Asians, so we had a fair understanding about eachother. As I told you about the "go inter" strategy (export) of Korea was very strategic (LOL sorry for my limited vocabs). See Rain's songs for an example, his songs are all melody-driven and all are inserted with English phrases so if we don't understand Korean, those English phrases might help us more or less. Besides that, JYP also thought about the lyrics translations so that the audience could be mesmerized by the song, so they asked for a Thai translation of the lyrics in the concert. That's why when Rain sang the song for his late mom, several audiences got tears in their eyes, no matter that they don't understand Korean. But the expressions, both body languages and his eyes, are what the Korean crews emphasized and that can help foreigners to understand their works easily.
What's lack by the Korean crews is the communication. Most of them couldn't speak English. The crews were about 60 people in total so we had to bring as many as 6 interpreters. Someone told me that Rain wouldn't be able to to be the World super star (now Asian super star) because his crews still couldn't speak English, but I couldn't agree more. Rain is seriously learning English for his aim which is the world pop star, and JY Park also has some business base in America and some part of his life is in America and he's also a producer to a lot of American artists so I think Rain should be able to reach his goal.
Now, Rain's fans might want me to write about Rain himself. Then I will write about him in the next part. All I can tell is that if you read it , you will know that "Rain is so cute".

** Check Part 2: "Charlotte" tells Rain's stories via her pen,
showing his cuteness, discipline & professionalism.
Bi's comments on his body parts
Hair: I like black hair. Have it straightened, with a few strands of blond in between—cute and manly at the same time. Because I'm busy with work and sometimes may neglect to groom my hair, so I've fallen in love with hats. Firstly, to cover the unruly hair, and secondly, I think I'm pretty good-looking wearing hats!
Eye: When I was young, I hated my eyes. There were many times when I wanted to go get my double eyelids surgically done, but the plastic surgeon felt that my small eyes were kind special, so he won't do it for me. Who would know that these pair of eyes helped many people to remember me? Now to think of it, it’s lucky I go through the operation.
Hand: It is important for dancers to protect their hands. To fully communicate the rhythm and essence of a song and a dance performance, every part of the body must be flexible and agile, the hand is no exception. I wonder if everybody realized this, but my fingers are very pointed. If I don't become a singer, maybe I would have become a great pianist! *Laughs*
Waist: Shoulders, waist, butt, legs, feet -- these are the five crucial parts for any dancer, which should be protected like the dancer protects his life! But very often, they are problematic. When dancing, it is important to "open" your joints, and these joints are very vulnerable to injuries. When I first started dancing, I sprained my waist or leg almost every day. I had no idea using so much strength would result in injuries. Nowadays, when I perform on stage, some people will ask me how come my waist is so flexible. This is of course, the result of long-term training. There's also health elements here. For the sake of your health, everybody should also take note to train their bodies.
Forehead: When I was young, I often hear the adults say that people with high foreheads are very smart, and these people tend to be fast-learners. At that time, I thought I was doomed for life. My forehead is not high, so I probably will be terrible at school, and probably never learn anything well! In the end, it seems the adults' prophecy was fulfilled in me. Honestly speaking, my academic results were not very good. This is especially after I started becoming obsessed with dancing. I skipped classes almost every day. My results were horrible, but my dancing foundations were doing great instead. From this, it shows that I'm not stupid at everything. So even without a high forehead, as long as you practice doubly hard every day, you can still succeed.
Nose: I have quite a pretty nose. Look at my side-profile, isn't my nose nice and straight? I had a nose bridge surgical procedure done, and at that time, many fans were very worried. Everyone, please don't worry. I am very healthy. Please take care of your health too!
Mouth: Friends around me all say I have very full lips, and they look very sexy. Of course I'm very happy. Although I pretend to be very shy in front of them, but when I am alone at home, I'm secretly very gleeful about it.
Shoulder: I think men should have a pair of shoulders that allow women to lean with security. If I have a girlfriend, I will give all my love to her. I won't make her cry, upset her or allow her to get hurt. I'll block all wind and rain for her with my broad shoulders.
Leg: I'm tall, so my limbs are naturally long. When I have meals with friends, I don't have to worry about not being able to grab the goodies before they're all gone! *Laughs*

Let It Rain
BANGKOK ASIA NEWS NETWORK
Jung Ji-hoon, Rain to his fans, must have believed that if he can make it in New York, he’ll make it anywhere. The 23-year-old South Korean actor and singer performed at the 5,600-seat Madison Square Garden, New York, on Feb 3 and 4, which was dubbed as only a prelude to his real US debut later this year.
Rain is learning English, but is not yet confident enough to speak the language spontaneously. When I asked him at a press conference in Bangkok recently what was the next step for him after the Medison concerts, he did not need a translation although he answered in Korean.
“It feels great to be the first Asian artist to have a concert in Madison, it makes me feel very proud. I hope that this will be the start for more opportunities in the United States,” he said.
Rain’s next step, as he gears up for the US market, is to make a movie. At least two have been reported to be in the can for him: One to be directed by Old Boy’s Park Chan-wook and the other, a remark of John Woo’s A Better Tomorrow that would co-star fellow Korean Jang Dong-gun (Taegukgi/ Brotherhood) and hong Kong actor Louis Koo. These movies are meant to expand Rain’s pan-Asian appeal.
When asked what he likes more, singing or acting, he had a hard time choosing. He believes that both are vehicles in his bid of bigger stardom. He noted that before him, it was not common to be a singer and actor at the same time in south Korea. He was the first to be both.
He acknowledged that the Korean drama Full House – where he played a spoiled, but lovable character – provided a significant boost to his career. But he said his being a singer has made a difference and set him apart from the Won Bins and the Bae Yong-joons. During his Bangkok concerts, Rain’s spiels were scripted in English. The pressure for him to master the language is increasing as he prepares for his first all-English album.
He wants to be Asia’s ambassador of pop music to the Western world, a dream that has remained elusive for those who tried to cross over before. The plan is to strengthen Rain’s base first in Asia before conquering the US charts.
“I want to be a representative of Asia and Asian people regardless of whether they are Japanese, Taiwanese, Chinese, Singaporean, Filipino,” he said in an interview with CNN’s Talk Asia.
His popularity in the region grew with Full House, which has been aired in Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, Viet Nam, Thailand, Japan, the Philippines, Indonesia and Singapore. But his journey to success was not easy. He was rejected 12 times in auditions in Korea and was told to undergo cosmetic surgery to look more Western. He started out as a back-up dancer for several singers, including Park Jin-young, his manager.
Park saw a certain hunger in him. The same hunger which he says creates superstars. Part of Rain’s hunger came from losing his mother a year before he made his debut. He vowed to work hard in her honor. Park has described Rain’s lifestyle as similar to that of monks. He steers clear of vices and girls and sleeps only two hours when he is working. “Only monks, reverends and Rain live like that. That is why I think he can make it anywhere in the world,” Park said.
However, Rain is facing criticism that his music does not sound Korean, but only mimics Western songs. His style has been likened to Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake and Usher. He also has to guard against being a passing fancy in the West just because he looks and sounds different. Park explained that the reason why previous attempts of Asian singers to cross over failed was because there was no “Asian Color” in their albums. He said the songs in Rain’s forthcoming album were written by Korean songwriters to ensure that such Asian flavor will be present.
Rain himself has acknowledged that he needs to emphasis his roots if he were to become a real ambassador of Asia’s pop culture. He said an Asian artist has better chances at getting recognition in Western shores if they stick to their culture. This is why, he said, he incorporates martial arts into his dancing to add an ethnic flavor into his performance.
He is not the only one to do this, however, Taiwanese singer Jay Chou blends traditional Chinese musical instruments into his songs, and has also employed martial arts in his choreography. But Rain’s edge over Chou is he willing to learn English and is open-minded about the sacrifices one has to make to break into the US market.
“Being a singer and actor teaches me to set bigger goals and climb higher steps,” he said. That is why, even when there are other Asian countries awaiting his performance, he is working towards his goal to hit the United States because in his words, it is the “dominant” music market. “I would really like to see an Asian make it there. And I would like that Asian to be me,” He said.
