SOUTH Korean pop and R&B star Rain (or Jung Ji-Hoon) will be entertaining fans at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur on Jan 27 at 8pm.
Rain, 23, is not only a hit with fans in his country but also those from Japan, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia.
Time magazine has ranked him the second most influential figure in the global entertainment industry.
Rain recently gave two performances in New York’s Madison Square Garden. He has also been referred to as the South Korean Justin Timberlake.
A former member of South Korean pop group Fanclub, he launched his first solo album in 2002. The album had a monster hit in Bad Guy.
Rain also dabbled in acting and appeared in the Korean drama series Sang Doo! Let’s Go To School.
His second album, Ways To Avoid The Sun, spawned the major hit Ways To Avoid The Sun.
In 2004, he starred in Korean drama series Full House which was also screened in the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, China and Japan.
The hit series made him a household name across East Asia.
His third album, It’s Raining, sold over a million copies in Asia.
Rain earned greater recognition by winning the MTV Asia Grand Slam 2004.
In 2005, MTV crowned him Favourite Korean Artist and Most Popular Asian Artist.
He also became the first East Asian singer invited to perform at the American MTV Video Music Awards in Miami in 2005.
In the same year, he sang at the MTV Latin Video Music Awards in Mexico.
